Even though we’re still feeling warm weather in Southern California, cooler days will be here before you know it. Although the temperature may change, it doesn’t mean that you should skip out on important parts of your exercise routine.
Whether it is before or after your workout, ensure that you are taking care of your body when temperatures drop. Below are a few tips to help you.
Warm-Up
Your muscles need a warm-up to get the best workout possible. If you try to push yourself before you are properly warmed up, you may potentially injure yourself. Consider walking for 15 minutes beforehand or do a few exercises to get your muscles warm and blood pumping before walking into the gym.
Stay Hydrated
Even if it’s colder, you should hydrate just as much as you would in the summertime. It can be harder to tell in colder weather, but dehydration can hinder your workouts. Be sure to drink fluids before, during, and after your workouts. To help you stay hydrated, drink room temperature water because cold water may be harder to drink.
Layer Up
Whether you’re working out indoors or outdoors, you should be prepared for the cold weather. Keep your body warm by layering up on cooler days. Indoor workouts may not require as many layers as the outdoors, but the most important aspect of both is that you have the ability to take layers off.
Cool Down
Don’t skip your cool down. Even though the weather is cooler, you still need to cool down your muscles. Going from a heart-pumping workout into the cold weather can also cause an injury. You must stretch to alleviate muscles and ease them back into a normal state
